Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Alexander “AJ” Calabro

Major: Economics and Environmental Studies
Academic Scholarship Years:
Son of
Alexander "AJ" Calabro

Alexander displays high ideals and a higher work ethic. Currently twenty-one years old, continues to manage his own hair cutting business at college to offset miscellaneous expenses while away from home. Alexander aspires to attend law school after graduation to eventually pass the bar and practice environmental law.

Alexander continues to play for the Syracuse Football Team. Through his involvement with the team, he volunteers at the 315 Thrift Store, where proceeds support the Syracuse Rescue Mission. Within the past year, Alexander began volunteering with the STEM National Honor Society (NHS) where he performs research to identify schools in need of help to increase their STEM programming.

Alexander is personable, respectful and kind to everyone he encounters. Educators, coaches, and members of his father’s Engine Company share that Alexander is strong of character, industrious, mature and successful in all that he pursues, making him an ideal recipient of a scholarship.

“AJ (Alexander) is member of our defensive secondary and a number of special teams units. As one of his coaches, I have gotten to know him well during his time here. He has a great work ethic and attacks each day with a winning attitude. AJ is a young man that works to maximize each day to it’s fullest, and you can see that his positive attitude is helping him maximize his opportunity here at Syracuse,” says Reno Ferri, Coach of Syracuse Orange Football.

Alexander’s previous scholarships were made possible with support from
Motorola Solutions Foundation.
