Zion has changed his major from Civil Engineering to Business Management as he now plans to obtain a job in the business world eventually working his way into a high-level management position.
Knowing his mother didn’t make a lot of money, Zion began working part-time as soon as he reached the state’s legal age requirement for employment. He helps his mom with expenses with his earnings. Zion knows his mother has always worked hard to provide him with everything he could need. Zion knows receiving this scholarship could make the difference between continuing his education or not.
Royce Hans, a Retired Surfside Beach Fire Battalion Chief and retired Prince George’s County Police Officer, has known Zion since he was 5 years old and has stated “Zion displays strong, moral character through his personal interactions at home, school, and in his community. I can honestly say that he displays a strong personal commitment to successfully completing whatever task that he is assigned.”

Breann graduated with her A.A. degree with no debt. She attributes this to the Sarbanes Scholarships program and how it held her accountable academically. Breann will be transferring to the University of Colorado, Denver to complete her B.A. in Education and become an Elementary school teacher.
After losing her father at age 8, she helped take care of her younger siblings and she thinks she will be able to carry these lessons over to be an inspirational teacher. Breann is currently working full-time as a Paraprofessional at an Elementary school. When not working or studying, she volunteers at several athletic events within her school district.
Elementary Teacher Tunink writes, “On a professional level, I have had the pleasure of working with Breann for two years at Fowler Elementary School District. As a paraprofessional, she is very passionate about education. She shows a great desire to educate children and has patience and understanding in Special Needs education that will make her a great asset to any school district.”

Tyler is pursuing an Engineering Management degree through the University of Wisconsin-Madison virtual program while working full-time on third shift. He knows this education will open doors of opportunity, taking him to the next step in his career as a supervisor and to better provide for his family.
Besides work and school, Tyler coaches high school football and wrestling. He recognizes that athletics have played an important role in his life. Now he wants to pay it forward by being an important, trusted figure in kids’ lives and teach them lessons that will transcend from the team to everyday life.
Chris Winter, Assistant Head Football Coach at Wartburg College shares, “I have worked with Tyler the past three off-seasons. He is a detail-oriented person, tireless worker, and great teammate. He’s always ready to help the younger players and is passionate for mentoring and helping others. Tyler is a great candidate for this scholarship.”

Rebecca enjoys sports, dance and helping others. She has been consistently involved in sports since she was the age of 2; now in college, she is on the women’s basketball team. Rebecca finds great satisfaction in being one year closer to making her father’s dreams come true by graduating college.
Rebecca has found financial hardship to be a bigger struggle for her family since COVID-19 has begun. She and her mother both were unable to hold their customary summer jobs due to the shutdown. Rebecca looks forward to her return to campus for her senior year just to obtain a sense of normalcy.
Fire Commissioner Deborah Norman shares, “Rebecca maintains more than a 3.0 GPA and enjoys competing in collegiate sports while she continues to be her mother’s right arm helping out at home. She maintains her attendance at her local church and always finds time to volunteer with the Westchester County Habitat for Humanity.”

Molly has always had a deep love of helping others at home and in her community. She has decided to study nursing which comes as no surprise to those who know her. She plans work in pediatrics and work as a traveling nurse for a few years. When that chapter concludes, Molly plans to return to school and obtain her master’s as a Nurse Practitioner.
Molly did not hesitate to get involved in her college community. She joined Teddi Dance for Love to raise money for families with cancer, as well as becoming involved in Fisher’s Furry which helps animal shelters. She currently is volunteering at local COVID testing sites and is administering vaccinations.
Molly is blessed with humility, self-discipline, compassion and considerable talent but her most remarkable trait is her strong work ethic. Her adjunct clinical instructor states, “Molly is one of the most compassionate students I have worked with. She has a kind heart and dedication to her patients that really stands out. She is well deserving of a National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Scholarship.”

Christopher plans to get a degree in business with a concentration in finance and a minor in economics. He aspires to attend law school or get his MBA. Christopher would like to work in the finance industry for a firm such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, or Morgan Stanley. He may become a business attorney.
Christopher has played baseball since a young age and shares that it, along with weightlifting, are his favorite extracurricular activities. He feels that sportsmanship and being a team player are two of the greatest lessons the game has taught him, which allows him to be successful in the academic field.
Christopher is a member of the investment club at Marist, a business student club member and serves as a member of the campus ministry. He participates in various volunteer opportunities to benefit the local community. Christopher considers his dad as his moral compass and the force that drives him to be successful.

Tyler desires to influence social change in a positive way while incorporating his passion of art. His twin sister suffers from Reflex Sympathetic Disorder, placing a high financial burden on his family. He is thankful to be a multi-year recipient of the Sarbanes scholarship, it has lessened that financial burden and receiving the scholarship has helped him to experience personal and academic growth. Something he did not believe he was capable of and without the scholarship, would not have been possible.
Having suffered with anxiety himself when his father died, Tyler mentors a 14-year-old boy who suffers from extreme anxiety by making himself available, going for lunch or attending his sporting events. To give back to the local community during the COVID-19 pandemic, he and several roommates are producing and selling a magazine with the proceeds being donated to the local food bank.
Tyler’s determination and commitment to maintain high standards both personally and academically are evident. Tyler has remained true to himself, his values and his goals. He is a role model to his peers.

Natalie finds the intersection of political science and public health to be a fascinating field of study. It was experiencing the daunting red tape present in the health system when her dad was fighting cancer that has inspired her to study harder. She plans to become part of the solution to the national health care problem through working within public health policies.
She mentors young students in Nashville through an afterschool program, volunteers at a local elementary school to teach nutrition and fitness lessons to underprivileged children and helps to organize a free week-long summer camp for children who have a parent diagnosed with cancer. Natalie is currently mentoring two high school seniors who are navigating the stressful college application process.
It is said that Natalie personally engaging, thoughtful, intelligent, and hardworking. Professor John Greer says, “Natalie’s volunteerism, work, and ranking in the top 5% of the student body is a testament to her work ethic.”

Connor is pursuing his career by double majoring in physical therapy and athletic training. He is extremely grateful for his Sarbanes Scholarships for the past three years as he has been able to perform at a high academic level, making the Dean’s List each semester. His goal is to earn his Doctor of Physical Therapy and work with special needs children.
Connor is excited to have been accepted for Quinnipiac’s semester away experience through their Athletic Training program. He will be working with the University of Colorado – Boulder football team and women’s soccer team as a student athletic trainer this fall. He looks forward to putting his experience and knowledge to practical use.
Connor is said to be one of hardest working students; he has chosen to take a path of excellence. Always prepared, conscientious and respectful, Conner is truly an exceptional young man. Filled with integrity, leadership, and community involvement, he comes highly recommended for a scholarship.

Nicholas is currently attending the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University. With a background in business, he hopes he will be able to obtain a job in the Sports Management field.
Heavily involved with the Middle County Relay for Life team, Nicholas has volunteered for the past 10 years, including many different jobs to raise funds for his team. He volunteered at a church in New York where his role was to restock and distribute food for a local food pantry. His volunteer experience continues at many different locations, showing how involved Nicholas is with impacting his community.
During a Community Service project, Nicholas traveled to Costa Rica to protect endangered sea turtles. Some of his assignments included cleaning up beaches, planting trees, and creating awareness for the protection of these turtles. On top of all these service projects, one of Nicholas’s instructors describes him as dedicated, focused, conscientious and a natural born leader as he inspires his peers.
