Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Cory Benson

Major: Law
Academic Scholarship Years:
Son of
Cory Benson

Cory completed his undergraduate degree in law and ethics and anthropology with highest honors from Trinity College at the University of Toronto in Canada. He is now going to pursue his graduate degree in law. Upon graduation, Cory plans to work in the public sector for either the government or a public interest group. He views this as a service to his fellow citizens and his country.

Cory spent a gap year as a service volunteer for AmeriCorps. He used this opportunity to save money for school and finds that the volunteer opportunity was eye-opening and incredible. Cory spent his past year working in Hawaii to work on poverty reduction and environmental resilience. When he returns home, he plans to continue volunteering at HOPE Christian service to those with disabilities in his community.

Vincent Torre, Fire Chief says, “When Cory is not away at school or volunteering with AmeriCorps, he is actively involved in his community with various community organizations. He has excelled during his time at Trinity College prior to graduation and now desires to advocate for his fellow man and those in public service. We are eager to watch him continue to flourish as he follows his dreams.”

Cory’s previous scholarships were made possible with support from
Motorola Solutions Foundation, Global Health and Safety, and the Engine Company 5 Foundation.
