NFFF Scholarships

Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Kayleigh Ransom

Major: Special Education & Elementary Education
Academic Scholarship Years:
Daughter of
Kayleigh Ransom

Kayleigh is applying for the NFFF Scholarship for the first time to help ease the financial burden on her mother, who is currently supporting three children in college, including Kayleigh and her twin siblings. She is pursuing a career in special education, a path she has been passionate about since childhood. Kayleigh understands that being a special education teacher requires dedication, patience, and proper training-qualities she possesses through her experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Her volunteer work has played a significant role in shaping her commitment to helping others. She has spent the past few years giving her time to organizations like Camp Capernaum, Night to Shine, and the Notre Dame Urban Education Center. At Camp Capernaum, she serves as a buddy to children with disabilities during a week-long camp, and at the Urban Education Center, she mentors and supports elementary students with their academics. Kayleigh finds the most rewarding part of her volunteer work to be witnessing the progress and growth in the individuals she helps, which further motivates her to pursue her goals in education.

Fire Chief Aaron Gruelle says, “Kayleigh is one of the most driven, compassionate, and resilient individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing. Her work ethic, combined with her genuine care for others, in conjunction with her academic, athletic, and volunteer commitments makes her an exceptional candidate for this scholarship.”
