Travis Lee Ransom was a selfless, genuine, and humble man who led by example. He was intelligent, charismatic, and incredibly ambitious. In his short 49 years of life, Travis continually gave of himself to friends, family, and his community.
Travis (“The Kid”) was born in Conneautville, Pennsylvania, on December 26, 1974, to parents Linda and Ernest. He grew up in Conneautville and, from an early age, spent most of his time outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a love for all sports.
Travis served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1994 until he obtained a firefighting job in 1997 at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). He quickly worked his way up the ranks. While at CVG, he obtained his Paramedic Certification and a degree in fire science. Travis retired in 2017 as a battalion chief with 20 years of service at CVG. After retirement, Travis worked part-time at Union Fire Protection District and went full-time with the department in February 2019.
Travis always prided himself on staying healthy and active. He continually advocated for the health and safety of his fellow firefighters. While at Union Fire, Travis found his passion for mentoring and training new recruits. He was excited to give back to his community. He loved his profession, his community, and his country. He was truly an American hero.
Travis enjoyed a good steak, and he’d always say he was a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Travis loved music and could rock out to some old-school heavy metal music but enjoyed the classic country songs too. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and the Ransom family was often found sitting together on Sunday afternoons watching football games.
Travis won his two-year battle with cancer and was called to his heavenly home on June 21, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lisa; twins, Hunter and Hannah (21); daughter, Kayleigh (18); and his dog, Finley.
Travis is deeply missed. We are comforted knowing our hero and guardian angel is watching over and protecting us. His light will continue to live on in all of us who knew and loved him. To honor Travis and to continue his legacy, the family established the Travis’ Triumph Tour Memorial Scholarship Fund: horizonfunds.org/fund/travis-triumph-tour.
