Alan P. Sondej Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Mallory Mickel

Major: Anesthesiology
Academic Scholarship Years:
Daughter of
Mallory Mickel

Receiving a scholarship will allow me to complete the courses I need to be eligible to apply to the anesthesiology assistant program. Scholarships have made it possible for me to pursue my entire undergraduate degree, and now this scholarship will make it possible for me to finish the few courses I need to pursue my career goals.

I have been a recipient of the Alan Patrick Sondej scholarship for the entirety of my undergraduate degree. Since the start of my first year, many of my goals have changed. I faced new challenges and grew through moments of discomfort to become a more refined, stronger version of myself. As a result, my interests and goals have changed, especially when it comes to my career. My career goal is to become an anesthesiologist assistant. My education goals are to complete the necessary schooling to achieve this. Overlapping personal and educational goals is the desire to continue learning, whether through experiences or in a classroom, and use what I learn to positively impact my and others lives.

As for extracurricular activities, I am currently on a study abroad program in Costa Rica where I am taking a Spanish course and three environmental science courses each with multiple field trips to research stations throughout the country. The study abroad is from January 7, 2023, to April 3, 2023. August – December 2021, I was a part of the Family Youth and Community Science Club where we engaged in the community such as removing trash from strip of roadway and participating in breast cancer walks. Also, during this time, I took weekly classes from the Assemble Ballet Company at my school. August 2021 – September 2021, I volunteered at the Orthopedic Institute where I shadowed physical therapists, cleaned equipment, prepared hot and cold packs, and directed patients in their prescribed exercises. January 2020 – September 2021, I worked as a lifeguard at the school’s pools. During the summer of 2019, I was a part of the salsa club where I learned the basics of salsa dancing.

Mallory’s previous scholarships were made possible with support from
