Gene Ottonello was one of the finest men I’ve ever met and ever worked with. Gene was a friend, a teacher, a mentor, a patriot, a man of honor. The word of his death was beyond devastating to his loved ones and those of us who worked with Gene across the West in the Bureau of Land Management Fire Program. He was nothing less than the finest man, firefighter, friend that anyone could ever be lucky enough to know in their lifetime. My heart aches for his loss.
– Jeanette Colville(Sam) was one of my Marines and RTO in Vietnam in 68-69. He in 69. Gene was one of the best and he was always by my side and rarely not smiling. I knew I could always count on him. So sad to hear this. He survived worse in Vietnam. RIP old friend. Semper Fi.
