The theme of Season Two of the Grief in Progress podcast series is the power of connection to find solidarity, strength, and support in times of loss. Grief can be a challenging and isolating experience for many people, but it can be especially difficult for parents who have lost a son or daughter. “Strength in Standing Together: A Mother and Father’s Story” introduces you to Katrina and Dwayne Murphy, the parents of Firefighter Kendall Murphy, who died in the line of duty in 2017.
- After reminiscing on their nearly 35 years of marriage, the Murphys courageously reflect on the day they learned of their son’s death. Their story of unimaginable sorrow is a powerful reminder of the importance of connecting with people to remember that you are not alone.
- The Murphys also discuss their experience with three programs offered by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF): the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the weekly virtual peer support groups, and Men Forging Ahead. They share how connecting with other families of fallen firefighters helps them with their grief while also helping others who are grieving.
